Heligoland in the 19th century (bird's eye view)In this drawing, the South Harbour (built between about 1900 and 1916) and the Northeast Land (made around 1940) did not yet exist.

(I took this photo in an exhibition room inside the island's bunker complex, which I visited in an excursion)

17th century map of HeligolandOn this map of about 1650 we see that the white limestone cliffs in the east (where now is Dune Island) still existed, and were connected to the main island by a sandy area.

The present Northeast Land and South Harbour did not yet exist.
